Who does the BLM use to conduct the wild horse "gathers"? Do they use a contractor who is concerned about the safety of the horses and ensuring that no horses are injured?
You would like to think so, but apparently not, as Cattoor Livestock, a long-time BLM contractor "specializing in wild horse gathers" "did knowingly, intentionally, and unlawfully use an aircraft to hunt, for the purpose of capturing and killing, wild, unbranded horses, mares and colts running at large on public land".
An aircraft was used ILLEGALLY from August 1990 through December 1990 "for the purpose of capturing and killing wild unbranded horses" and "selling said horses for slaughter".
The horses were herded by aircraft onto the Duckwater Indian Reservation and then sold and shipped by truck to a then open slaughter house to be slaughtered and processed.

Sounds like the BLM's actions do not line up with the best interests of our wild horses (yes our wild horses as they belong to the public).
